This explains what information Yout keeps about you, why, and what you can do about it.
What we keep
Account details: username, display name, email address, a one-way hash of your password (we never keep the password itself), your date of birth and, if you add one, your phone number. The date of birth, phone number and two-factor secret are encrypted in the database.
What you post: posts, replies, reposts, pictures and videos, messages, bookmarks, likes, follows, blocks and mutes, and your profile picture and cover photo.
Security records: the devices signed in to your account and your login history, with the end of each IP address removed, plus the browser and system name.
Your settings and the topics and hidden words you choose.
How we use it
To run Yout: show your posts to the right people, deliver messages and notifications, and keep your account secure.
To keep people safe: your date of birth sets age-appropriate defaults (for example, accounts under 18 have safer messaging and visibility rules), and reports are reviewed by moderators.
To personalize, only if you leave 'Personalized recommendations' on: your followed topics and who you follow shape the 'Who to follow' and Explore suggestions. Turn it off in Settings and suggestions use popularity only.
To email you, only if the server operator has set up email and you have turned the emails on.
Who we share it with
We don't sell your information and Yout shows no advertising. Your posts are shown to the audience your privacy settings allow.
The operator may use service providers to run Yout (for example hosting, file storage and email delivery). They handle data only to provide that service.
We may disclose information if the law requires it.
How long we keep it
Posts and messages stay until you delete them, or until your 'keep my posts' setting removes them. Login history is kept for the period you choose (one year by default). When you delete your account, your account and everything in it are removed immediately; copies in routine backups are removed when those backups expire.
Your controls
In Settings you can download all of your data, delete your posts, messages or login history, deactivate your account (hidden until you log back in), or permanently delete it.
You can change who can follow, message and mention you, make your account private, hide words, and choose how sensitive content is shown.
Children
Yout is not for people under 13. If we learn an account belongs to someone under 13 we close it.
